The No Strings Method combines film, participatory puppetry, storytelling and reflection to help children and communities explore serious issues in ways that feel safe and meaningful.

Puppetry creates a different kind of learning space. A puppet gives enough distance for difficult ideas to be approached without demanding direct personal disclosure. Fear, anger, shame or uncertainty can be explored through a character.

The method is also very physical. To bring a puppet to life, children have to make it breathe, focus, listen, move and respond. This shared attention draws the group into concentration, coordination and cooperation. The room becomes focused but playful, creating the conditions for deeper learning.

Stories are what gives that learning shape. Children use puppets to create situations, test choices, imagine consequences and rework what happens next. They are not simply receiving messages; they are actively making sense of them.

Our films often provide the starting point, introducing characters, dilemmas and key ideas. Participatory puppetry then carries those ideas into the room, where children can explore them through situations they recognise, considering different responses and discovering what might change.

The Method also supports social and emotional learning. As children bring puppets to life and create stories together, they practise listening, cooperation, empathy, communication, perspective-taking and self-regulation. These skills are not taught as a separate lesson; they are woven naturally into the act of imagining, responding and working with others.
