Will This Be Your Life? (Prevention)
Things are fine in young Daisy Johnson’s life, but she is growing up fast; suddenly, older girls’ lives seem much more interesting. While walking home from school with her friend Frances and little brother Daniel, Daisy can’t believe her luck when Clifford, a guy on a motorbike, wants to talk to her. Rita and Tanya are smoking cigarettes, watching: Daisy feels inches taller. They’re the cool girls, slightly older. Daisy wants to be like them. Frances pleads with her to see Clifford for what he is, but he’s a charmer who gives Daisy gifts, and what does Frances know? She’s jealous!! When Kibing appears and offers Daisy the amazing opportunity to take part in a magical game in which she can choose between two future lives, one represented by the handsome Clifford, the other, same-old Frances and Daniel, Daisy doesn’t hesitate. Luckily, she’s given a magical Return Button: at any point she can press it and return to the present with no harm done. It’s a good thing. At first, life with Clifford is everything she’d dreamt of. Daisy is quite the young woman, smoking, drinking, hanging out in bars – and doing things better left until later in life. She gets pregnant. She panics – she’s lost the Return Button! Worse, she finds she is HIV positive, even though Clifford seemed so healthy!! With only Clifford to turn to, she arrives to find him disgusted, flinging her old school bag out of his house. To her great relief, out of it rolls the Return Button. Daisy rushes back to the present, and to Frances and Daniel. She tells all her friends her story, and how it’s vital to make good choices the first time around. While she had a magical Return Button, they most definitely will not.
