No Strings, the official charity of the Portimao Global Ocean Race 2008-09

Global Ocean Sailing Ventures (GOSV) recently announced that No Strings, a charity that uses puppets to teach life-saving messages to children in developing countries, will be the official charity of the 2008/09 Portimão Global Ocean Challenge.

In keeping with the event credo, "doing something good while doing something great", aligning the race with a charity, especially one that has a direct impact on the lives of thousands of children, is an important step toward making the Portimão Global Ocean Challenge the world's pre-eminent offshore ocean race.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Portimão Global Ocean Challenge," said Johnie McGlade, founder of No Strings. "This international event is the perfect medium for promoting the work of No Strings. The wonderful link between the Global Ocean Challenge and school children around the world fits perfectly with No Strings' educational work in countries such as Afghanistan, where we teach children life-saving messages about how to avoid the ever-present danger of landmines."

A company with a social conscience
Global Ocean Sailing Ventures is a company with a social conscience that recognises the importance of using the sailing events in a constructive, dynamic way to involve young people, both sailors and non-sailors. Through a joint initiative with a global education partner, details of which will soon be announced, the Portimão Global Ocean Race will reach an audience of school children estimated to be in the tens of millions!
