About No Strings

The talking Crow, along with monkey Abadab, one of Kibing's strange companions

Like all our characters, Crow, from the HIV-awareness series Kibing! was designed by No Strings co-founder Michael Frith, creator of much-loved puppets like Fozzie Bear and Animal

In all the places No Strings works in the world, experts believe that children are better able to thrive if they understand how bad things affect them, and what they can do to help themselves. It might be to do with loss because of conflict or disaster, and how to cope. It might be health related; about diarrhoea, malaria, or HIV. Or how to be safe where there are landmines, or during floods, cyclones or earthquakes.

No Strings assembles the messages these experts give us and turns them into spellbinding lessons played out through sometimes fun, sometimes moving, but always pithy and world class-quality puppet films.

Remember Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, the Fraggle Rock Fraggles? Lumps of cloth and foam, yet loveable characters people genuinely attach to. What’s very special about No Strings is that it’s the same great talents behind these famous puppets making our films.

Their interest piqued, children need to make active connections after watching a film, interpreting messages in ways that fit with their own experiences through a range of hands-on puppet activities that are fun, age appropriate and inclusive.
